Chapter 4 (News)

1.Imagine you are a reporter for the newspaper published near Animal Farm. Write an article about the Battle of the Cowshed. Make your story as impartial as possible, reporting the facts and avoiding judgments. Remember a good newspaper story answers the questions: /xWho? What? Where? When? How? and Why?

Believe it or not the ANIMALS are rebelling! Recently at a farm in the England the Farmers were kicked off of their farm by the animals. We are not sure what started this rebellion. What gave the animals such an idea?
Yesterday afternoon the Farmers went back to the land to claim it. But when they got there the animals fought back forcing them to leave. Farmer John was killed when an animal fell on him. The farm boy was injured but not killed. He is in a coma, but is expected to wake up. A sheep also died when shot twice.

Farm owners- watch out! This may be in your future.

Snowball and Napoleon sent flights of pigeons to the surrounding farms to mingle with the animals to tell them the story of the Rebellion and to teach them the tune of Beast of England.
Farmer Jones always complained about his farm being taken over by a pack of animals.  Farmer Pilkington who owns Foxwoods an old neglected farm along with Mr.Frederik who owns Pinchfield a small well-kept farm and who is always involved with lawsuits, laughed at the idea of animals running a farm.
They charged into the farm and farmer Jones had a gun in his hands. Snowball ordered the pigeons and geese to attack, shortly the men shouted triumph. Snowball ordered a second attack, all the farm animals came from every angle. At one point, Jones shot the gun killing a sheep and Napoleon knocked over a farm boy.
The battle was named “Cowshed” because during the battle the animals hid in the Cowshed. Snowball made a rule that any animal of Animal Farm must die for their farm at any given moment…There was sad funeral for the sheep that died. Snowball was named Hero First Class with a ceremony and  the gun was placed at the foot of the flag post.
On October the 12th is the anniversary of “The Battle Of the Cowshed”. On a Mid-summer day two shots are fired for respect of the sheep who died.

This is English news live, I come to you with breaking and shocker news. An animal uprising happened on John's Farm. The animals were organized and broke through the farm houses and trashed the land and chased away the workers. They animals renamed the farm "Animal Farm". This not only shocked the workers but other farmers, they are now worried that an uprising would happen on their farm. As the workers wanted their farm back they had decided to take it back, but failed miserably and the owner John was killed by a falling animal. Since then nobody has gone to the farm. Chapter 4 Grace

If you could be any one of the animals in the novel, which animal would you choose and why?

I would choose Mollie. Mollie is my favorite character. She I super bubbly, clumsy, and happy.  She is also pretty OK with whatever is happening on the farm. She is really only unhappy when it comes to the fact that they are going to take away her bows.
She also seems sneaky. In the book it says that she gets away with not doing her work. She would disappear for the whole work day and get back right a dinner time. I would like to know where she goes all day and what she is doing. I think it would be fun to Mollie for a couple of days.

Before Chapter 4
If you could be any one of the animals in the novel, which animal would you choose and why?

If I could be any animal in the novel, I would try to be one of the pigs. I would be one of the pigs so I could know how it feels to over power every other animal at the farm. The pigs believe that there superior  an have say in everything that everyone does.

If I were to pick any animal it would have to be Snowball, because he is in charge and people listen to him. I also find that when the other animals find out what what the pigs had been doing to them I could just blame Napoleon. I find this a major advantage because if they get busted then Snowball could just pass the blame and when they are taking it out on Napoleon he could become leader and trick them again. -Jonluc

Animal Farm-Tais

If you could be any one of the animals in the novel, which animal would you choose and why?
If I were any character I would be one of the pigs. I would want to be on of the pigs because they are smart and they get a lot luxury, for example getting milk in their mash, and getting to boss all the animals around. This would be a great life for an animal. But I think that all the animals in the farm would hate me after awhile. But if I am a pig I would always have to be in the debates, but I do not care, but I will fight for what is right for the animals in the barn.

Assignment before chapter 4

For Friday 25 October at 8:20am

If you could be any one of the animals in the novel, which animal would you choose and why?
1. In what ways are the animals of Animal Farm building a good community?

All of the animals are friendly to each other, they share (besides the apple and the milk), and the majority of them work hard to keep a good community. They have an environment where everyone works hard and supports each other.

3. What clues show that Napoleon and Snowball are heading for conflict?

Even though there is a respectful sharing environment, Napoleon and Snowball are constantly disagreeing with each other. They don't agree so the rest of the animals vote. This may make other people wonder who should really be in charge.

4. What is your opinion about Squealer? What role does he play on the farm?

Snowball does not play a big role in the story. I do not here him speak much. He gathers people together and thats about all he does. He is an excited person. He is also uses fear to get people to do what they

5. The pigs control lots of things. What do they control?

The pigs control the food supply, where food goes, and what parts of their plans they want to keep on the down low .They also treat themselves better than the other animals. They feed themselves the good food like the apples, mash ,and the milk.

6.How does Snowball simplify the Seven Commandments?

He changes it to " Four legs good, Two legs bad"

7. Why do you think Snowball simplifies the Seven Commandments?

They simplify the seven commandments so that the dumber animals don't feel left out and so that they can all know the seven commandments. Some of the animals cannot read which makes it harder for them to memorize them. Snowball simplified the Seven Commandments so that everyone would be included in knowing these "words to live by".
1. The animals are harvesting the crops and eat them for dinner with pride because it is their food and nobody else's.
2. Not everybody contributes, because the pigs don't do any of the work only "dictate" the other workers. This could become a big problem when the other animals realize it.
3. Snowball wants to be in charge and disagrees with Napoleon. There will be a problem that is waiting to happen, the two pigs while fight for power even if "everybody is equal".
4. Squealer has no say and is a follower and not a leader. He still leads some of the animals but the other pigs lead him. He is also very happy and
5.They control all of the animals and the farm, even though they even wrote that everybody is equal. I feel that they set up the rest of the animals to do all the work while the "dictate" the rest saying that everybody is equal.
6. He says that anything that is one four legs is good and anything on two is bad.
7.To define Napoleon and to say the commandments in his own words showing his leadership. This is to show that he can make rules to and that his are better.

Sunday, October 20, 2013

1. In what ways are the animals of Animal Farm building a good community?
The pigs were the smartest animals . They directed  and supervised the others, they assumed leadership. The animals had structure, on Sundays, they met and debated the weeks work and planned and placed resolutions. There was no wasting food, stealing, no jealousy or arguing. Work on the farm ran like clockwork.

2. Does everyone contribute equally to the farm? Explain your answer by referring to at least two characters.
No,  everyone did not contribute equally. "Everyone worked according to there capacity, nobody stole or grumbled over his rations. Almost nobody complained. For example,  "Molly,  was not good at getting up in the mornings" , she often had excuses to skip work. And the cats behavior was peculiar, she would never be found when there was work to be done.
3. What clues show that Napoleon and Snowball are heading for conflict?
Snowball became busy organizing animal committees like the Egg Production Committee and Clean Tails League. He started reading and writing classes for the animals. His ideas were all a failure. Napoleon did not care for any of Snowball's ideas.  He changed the structure and began giving all the milk and the apples to the pigs saying the pigs were the brain workers. He felt that education was the most important thing.

 5. The pigs control lots of things. What do they control?
The pigs control the farm. They are the brain workers, they are clever.  So, they didn't work, they just assumed leadership and  bossed everyone around.

6. How does Snowball simplify the Seven Commandments?
He said ," Four legs good, two legs bad"contained the essential principal of Animalism.

7. Why do you think Snowball simplifies the Seven Commandments?
The stupider animals were unable to learn the 7 casements by heart.

Q's for Animal Farm (Week 3)-Tais

1. In what ways are the animals of Animal Farm building a good community?
Now that they kicked Farmer Jones our, they are harvesting the crops, for example, corn and the wheat. They are also making committees for the animals. For example they make a committee for education, for eggs (Hens), for wool (sheep), for cleaning tails (cows), etc...

2. Does everyone contribute equally to the farm? Explain your answer by referring to at least two characters.

No. Not everyone contributes. One of them is the cat. The cat goes and when she is assigned something she goes off and she comes back when it is dinner time or when the job is done. Also I think the pigs do not do anything. All they do is supervise what the other animals do.

3. What clues show that Napoleon and Snowball are heading for conflict?
They do not agree with anything thy say. When one says something the other has to argue with the other one. When they have a debate Snowball concurs what Napoleon says and the same goes with Napoleon.

4. What is your opinion about Squealer? What role does he play on the farm?

Squealer does not have a big role in the farm. All he does is sit there and listens to what Snowball and Napoleon say.

5. The pigs control lots of things. What do they control?

They control the committees, they control the animals, they control the meeting, they basely control everything that is on the farm. They do not let the horses control the field, and they don't let the hens control the coop.

6. How does Snowball simplify the Seven Commandments?

He says " Four legs are good and two legs are bad".

7. Why do you think Snowball simplifies the Seven Commandments?

He simplified the Seven Commandments because he wants everyone to remember them. He made it easer for the dumb animals ( Like Boxer, the hens, and the sheep) to remember them.

1. The animals are astonished that they gained their freedom that they deserved. there is also Happiness going around and even if a problem arouses it is easily solved (milking the cows). There is also a peace since because the animals do the work and it is all fair and they are starting to form a type of system that every body is equal (Communism).

2. I found the part were the pigs milk the cow and out them in buckets. I found this funny because in real life something like this would be very hard to complete, but because they are smart and are able to talk they probable figured out how to complete the task with ease. Another part that i found funny was the part when the pigs were standing on buckets and they had to help it stand still, because they were not physical designed for completing a task of something like this. I find it to be funny as the hopelessly try to stand on them.

3. The rest of the animals were listening to the pigs because, they were always the leaders and the smartest. If I were to gain freedom but then be taken over again I would not be surprised, because you need a leader to get things done, furthermore the pigs are on there side and believe in the cause for there rebellion.

4. Everybody needs rules or the world would be in chaos and the leader would not have much surport to stop them because there were no rules telling him not to. the rules also let animals be animals because they don't want to be like humans.

5. I think someone drank the milk but i don't think they were alone or they drank some and hide the rest but I don't know who did it

Animal Farm chapter 2

1. How is the farm described after the rebellion? What picture is painted and what atmosphere is there? Identify words or phrases that support your answer.

I think that the farm gives a sense of freedom. The animals are free to eat all they want, and roam freely.I also think that it is not a chaotic free land. There is a sense of leadership and happiness.

2. There are several examples of humor in chapter two. Pick 2 examples and explain why they are funny.

I like the part when they go into the house and say nothing is to be touched and compare it to a museum. They are so careful too. They are preserving human things just like we do with historic human things- like clothing, pots, pans etc.

3. Why do you think the other animals are so easily led by the pigs? Would you have been so willing to follow another leader after you had freed yourself of oppression?

I think it is because the common belief is that the pigs are the smartest animals. The fact Old Major was a pig could also have something to do with respect.

4. What do you think about the seven commandments of Animal Farm? What do they suggest about the basic instincts of the animals?

I think that it shows how anti-human they really are. They say things that basically mean that if a human goes on the farm they will harm the human. I think its just another way the author shows the hostility the animals show towards the humans.

5. What do you think happened to the milk?

I think that the animals Napoleon may have made something for the animals or done something special for them. I doubt he drank the milk all on his own. He is a leader and he cares about other animals.

Q's for Animal Farm (Week 2)-Tais

1. How is the farm described after the rebellion? What picture is painted and what atmosphere is there? Identify words or phrases that support your answer.
It is described as a peaceful place where the animals are able to run free with no farms telling them what to do.

2. There are several examples of humor in chapter two. Pick 2 examples and explain why they are funny.
I think the funnest parts are when they go into the house and see the pigs hanging and got them down and when the milk the cows. The pigs milking to the cows is funny because they are pigs milking a cow. Then I like the part when they go into the house because when they see the pigs hanging they look then take them down

3. Why do you think the other animals are so easily led by the pigs? Would you have been so willing to follow another leader after you had freed yourself of oppression?

I think that they listen to the pigs because they are the smartest animals on the farm. The pigs also easily persuasive all the other animals and they need a leader like that.

4. What do you think about the seven commandments of Animal Farm? What do they suggest about the basic instincts of the animals?
I think that it is an alright idea because maybe the animals might break they. I think that their instincts will tell them not to go into the house.

5. What do you think happened to the milk?

I think that Napoleon drank all the milk. I think this because he said "I shall follow in a few minutes." This shows that he could drank all the milk.

He feels like he's the one who has to free everyone from the abuse an neglect from the owner. He also feels like everyone person is for themselves.

3.According to Old Major's speech, under what principles should the farm operate?

The principles are that bot man and animal shall be treated with the same respect, and everyone should have a place.

Jonluc's Answers

1. They animals are organized and talk. The animals are also smarter because if they weren't they would not be able to talk. Also it is Human nature to try to escape; for example animals in barns try not to escape or take over there owner. They still keep there animal traits, like what they look like what they eat, and their personalities.
2. He says that they need to free themselves of his cruelty because he forgets about them and they aren't treated right. He also says that they need to stand up for themselves.

Animal Farm Homework

1. In what ways do the animals in the novel act like humans? In what ways do they retain their identities as animals?

Each of the animals has their own personality with different positive and negative traits that go along with it. For example Boxer the big brown horse with a white strip down his nose (page 5), is not to smart, but is respected in the barn for his steadiness of character and how hard he works. This is the same type of thing that happens with Humans. Everyone has friends or knows people like this. This person may not be smart but you still respect them for their effort and their steadiness of  character.

2. What is the main message of Old Major's speech in the barn?

I think his message is that the animals on the farm is that the animals need to stand up for themselves and other animals and that they should stand up for other animals. Old Major clearly believed that man was the enemy and that they should do everything in their power to stop them.

3.According to Old Major's speech, under what principles should the farm operate?

The principles that Man and Animal should be treated equally and that everyone on the farm should be a place for animals to live long lives not short lives and then having to be eaten.

4. What happens during and after the rebellion?

Im not sure. The rebellion has not started yet. Just talk of a rebellion.

5. What do you think about the seven commandments of Animal Farm? What do they suggest about the basic instincts of the animals?

Q's for Animal Farm (Week 1)-Tais

1. In what ways do the animals in the novel act like humans? In what ways do they retain their identities as animals?
They all have different personalize and they all acted like humans. The have meeting(pg.6-14) and the a horse is descried as not to smart, but is respected in the barn for his steadiness of character and how hard he works (pg.6). This is sometimes how people descried friends or family.

2. What is the main message of Old Major's speech in the barn? The main message in the speech is that the animals do not like the humans because they would be killed and they Old Major talked about his dream and how the newer generation is not singing as much as he did when he was a little piglet.

I think his speech is telling all the animals to stand up for themselves and that they should not let the humans take over they lives.

3. According to Old Major's speech, under what principles should the farm operate?
He is saying that Man and Animals should be treated equally with the same rights as human do. He is standing up for that the animals in England.
